ARTIST HISTORY

Pure Local Artist-Painters History

Riaz Ahmad Jamil Ahmad aka Nagesh was started his career as an artist doing print works and wooden sculptures. Printings do not only demand a perfect knowledge of the necessary technical skills, but also a high degree of concentration, patience and imagination. Etchings, wood cuts, wood engraving as well as relief printings are techniques which the artist employed always trying to find new forms of expression, experimenting with new materials to overcome the traditional borders of print making. Even if some of his early etchings remind us of works from Kandinsky or matisse, Riaz soon found his own way of expression. The way the artistisusing space as a formal element of his compositions unique.

That was or better is one side of the artist, Riaz but it is not the only one.

In the beginning of 90's, the artist disappeared for many years, Riaz stop to work trying to find new forms of expression. He wanted to break the limitation given by thetechniques of printing. End of the 90's, He started to work again. He moved from his quite atelier close to the China Sea to Kuala Lumpur and started to paint. At the first glimpse these new works looks spontaneous, aggressive, wild, full of emotions, transmitting the feelings, that the artist is under a permanent pressure, fearing not having enough time to finish his art pieces. Many aspects of his works stay undefined,  painting or colouring, intention or accident, action or reaction. But you feel the search of the artist for forms and colours and especially for anthithesis and correspondence in the volumes of movement and tensions, clearly visible in the result of his works. But beside the spontaneous act of painting, all his works are the result of a long and reflected draft, expression of inner tension, of an inner unrest. The inside becomes outside.

Nearly all his new works, aesthetics expressions of the different reality, are asking us questions us and asking us questions is what art should do. Questions force us to think. There are no general answer. Facing the questions, facing the pictures, we have to embark on our own journey through our mind to search for answers, if we find any, there are ours, they belong to us.
